Catch Up

I apologize to my readers for not having written for so long. I’m lazy. I really wanted to write about getting an “A” this week; but, alas, it wasn’t to be. For those who don’t know, after we got shut down, we got a “B” from the health department. Sometime on Sunday, someone, kick ball drunks I’m looking at you, took our “B.” Nicole called the health department about it and she presumed that they would inspect up when they came out, so we cleaned. And when I say “we” I mean “they.” Management rules!

First of all, I have to commend Nicole on her forward thinking. Being ready for the health department was an excellent idea. Tuesday was Veteran’s Day, so the health department was closed. That gave us one more day. Nicole hired a power cleaner company. I’m not sure how it works but I’m guessing it’s like a power bidet and the floors are an asshole. Tuesday was super slow at Main and when I say “slow” I mean “dead.“ I guess people got tired of dressing up for the 80s. What can you do?

The health department did come out, but they didn’t inspect us. They just replaced the ”B.“ Speaking of health department grades, I don’t know if anyone really looks at our ”B“ and says, ”I was gonna drink my liver cirrhotic and throw some deep fried jalapenos stuffed with molten cheese that will burn my taste buds off, but they don’t have an “A.” Let’s move on.“ I don’t think so. My Dad’s friend, Richard, will only eat at places that have an ”A,“ but I’m guessing he’s the exception and not the rule. If a sushi bar has a ”C“ and no one in it, I might move on. But truth be told, the letter grade is only a snap shot. All it shows is how clean a restaurant or bar was for that hour of that day. Moving on.

I saw two films on my days off, Role Models and Slumdog Millionaire. I really like Role Models. It’s funny enough, but it’s a reminder that films are emotional vehicles. The ending is super corny, but I was totally moved. No, I wasn’t moved to tears, but as my Dad would say, ”It got me.“ Slumdog Millionaire is flat out amazing. I saw it at the Landmark which is always a pleasure. For a film whose genre is described as drama/comedy/romance, it was far darker than I expected. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that a film which takes place in the slums of Mumbai is dark, but there was some heavy shit. With that said, it’s at times very funny and incredibly uplifting. I don’t give a shit about the Oscars, but I hope Slumdog Millionaire gets nominated.

When I look over this post, I realize why I haven’t written in a week. Sometimes not a whole lot goes on in my life. Part of it is laziness, but I also don’t always feel like puking out some mediocre meditation on bar life. Don’t worry. The cops walked in at three ayem after work Friday. I nearly shat my pants. Sound exciting? You’ll just have to WAIT FOR IT! Hope you enjoyed this reading of catch up.
